Ms. Burns

Hello!  My name is Ms. Burns and I am excited to serve the 3rd-5th graders.  This will be my fifth year teaching and my third year at The Palmetto School.

My teaching style is a little different.  I prefer to use technology and projects.  Students will not be stuck in your chair all day in my classroom.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family.  This includes going to musicals, sporting events, and the movies (my favorites are the ones with the reclining chairs). I also like spending time with my dachshund Prissy!

Ms. Chris

My name is Chris Miller, known better as Ms. Chris, and I am the Executive Assistant at The Palmetto School. At the school I handle all work in the office including student enrollment, correspondence, school nurse, banking, ordering supplies, coordinating students at The Children’s Attention Home, and any other duties that arise. I have been with the school for the past five years. Prior to that, I spent eight years working in the Rock Hill School District at South Pointe High School in the Guidance office.

My husband and I live in Rock Hill and have a son and a daughter, but we are now empty-nesters. Going to the beach is one of my favorite past times!

Ms. George

My name is Karen George.  I graduated from The University of Central Florida in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in exceptional child education. Then, in 2000, I earned my master’s degree in educational leadership from Winthrop University. I taught in Florida for 7 years before moving to Rock Hill. I taught in Rock Hill for 3 years before having my children. I gave up teaching for 11 years to stay home with my children. This is my sixth year teaching at The Palmetto School.

I have been married for 18 years. We have 3 children. Jenna is 16, Adam is 14 and Jack is 12. They all attend Rock Hill Schools. In my free time I enjoy cooking, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

Ms. Nakia

My name is Nakia Pressley and I am the proud mother of Donovan Maddox Pressley. He is a second grader at Rosewood Elementary. We enjoy going to church, hanging out at the beach and trying new restaurants. My son is developmentally delayed, which is one of the reasons that I continue to work with children that are born into unique situations. My son has taught me more about life than any book could ever teach me.

I am currently serving as the behavior interventionist for the Palmetto Charter School. I have been a substitute teacher in the Rock Hill school district, but I haven’t worked in any other schools capacity. I bring with me over twenty years of experience in residential settings, working with children that have been traumatized emotionally, mentally and physically. I graduated from Limestone College with a degree in business administration and a degree in business management, but working with children has become one of the greatest accomplishments in my life. I would like for children that face difficulties in their life to believe that circumstances are apart of their destiny, but it’s not their final destination.

Ms. Hopper

My name is Kerrin Hopper and I began my studies at a conservatory in The Netherlands. I finished my under graduate degree at The University of Texas in Austin, and completed my Masters degree at Winthrop University in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

I have been juried into the South Carolina Arts Commission’s Arts in Education Roster for approved artists in the fields of both art and music.

I currently teach music, creative arts and 8th grade social studies at The Palmetto School in Rock Hill SC. I also do workshops for Clemson University at their facilities serving teenage girls in the lower part of the state.

I enjoy working with clay, mixed media and watercolors. My work is exhibited and sold in a gallery in Seaside Florida.
